Modeled after the World War II Type I denim jacket, this piece reflects the utilitarian adjustments imposed by wartime production controls. To conserve fabric and metal, manufacturers reduced the front closure from five buttons to four and used a single chest pocket without a flap. I have adjusted the fit from the original to make it a little more roomy to add the option of layering underneath.
Jackets are shipped unwashed. A single wash is recommended to soften the hand and ease the break-in process (see photo 4 and 5). As the denim is sanforized, shrinkage will be minimal after wash and dry. Machine wash cold and tumble dry low. The fabric may appear to have tightened after drying; a light steam or press will restore the original shape and drape.
